mica freeform™ Applications

In the medical device, semiconductor test, consumer electronics, aerospace and defense industries, advances in technology have led to components and devices that are smaller and smaller creating opportunities that are larger and larger for product line extensions as well as entirely new categories of solutions. Nowhere have the benefits of reducing scale been more evident than in the medical device industry, where technology has wrought a whole new range of minimally invasive procedures.

Now, in all of these industries and others, MICA Freeform™ invites you to operate on an entirely different scale. Resize your thinking from minimally invasive to “micro-invasive.” From tolerances measured in millimeters to precision measured in microns. If you’re in a field where smaller is better, we can help you get there. If you need solutions more precise than those offered by state-of-the-art micro-machining technologies, we can help deliver them. All from a single process that enables you to build everything from ultra-high precision parts to three-dimensional micro-machines. Before MICA Freeform™, your capabilities were defined by the bounds of technology. Now, the boundaries have changed. And so has your ability to reshape your processes, your possibilities and your marketplace.

Example Applications

Ultra-High Precision™ Parts

For wafer test probe card manufacturers, Microfabrica compliant pins are the most technically sophisticated and capable in the industry. Leveraging the MICA Freeform™ process and materials pallet, these probes can combine an excellent spring material (Valloy), a conductor (pure copper) and an electrical contact material (rhodium) in very precise geometries. This enables high touchdown counts, excellent current carrying capacity, precise planarity and very tight pitches.

Ultra-High Precision™ SubAssemblies

This complex rotary-actuated camera iris arrives from the wafer completely assembled and inspected. This example of a high-volume, micron-scale mechanism requiring precise actuation, alignment and repeatability in the fully assembled state is a perfect match for the MICA Freeform™ process.
